This image was created using ER Mapper. The original image of the Aral Sea
is a mosaic of aerial photographs taken in the late 1980's. This image was scanned
at the UCSD Library at 300 dpi and imported into ER Mapper. It was georeferenced
using the DEM (Digital Elevation Model) of the Aral Sea region found in
Digital Chart of the World (which was also imported into ER Mapper.) The georeferenced
mosaic was then laid over the DEM, creating a 3-D algorithm, and viewed on the Indigo 2
SGI, "Mufasa" at the San Diego Supercomputer Center. The screen image was captured and
you are viewing a low resolution version of that.
