THE ARAL SEA
Agricultural development is for the most part, labor
intensive, which translates to the employment of many people. Non-irrigated lands in the Aral region
are economically "worthless" scrub/desert. The saving of the Aral
Sea has become a human right's issue. There is the necessity to
feed and employ the people of the area. The fishing industry of the 1960's employed 60,000
people. The agricultural industry of the today employs 2 million
people.
The problems surrounding the Aral Sea would make a very interesting
discussion.
