WHERE
This is a 3-D image of the Salton Sea region. This image was created using ER Mapper.
The original image of the Salton Sea is a
photograph taken from the space shuttle. It was retrieved from the EarthRise database,
and imported into ER Mapper. The image was georeferenced using the Geo-SPOT mosaic
of the Salton
Sea region (which was also imported into ER Mapper.) The georeferenced image was then
transformed to geodetic datum and paired with the USGS (United States Geological
Survey) 100 meter resolution DEM of the entire United States to create a 3-D image.
This algorithm was viewed on
the Indigo 2 SGI, "Mufasa" at the San Diego Supercomputer Center. The screen image
was captured and you are viewing a low resolution version of that.
