WHERE

This is a false color mosaic of the Salton Sea region. There are THREE separate components to this algorithm. The bottom image is a mosaic of the four Geo-SPOT images that make up the Salton Sea region. On top of the SPOTs is a georeferenced space shuttle image (retrieved from the EarthRise database and georeferenced using ER Mapper.) The rectangle visible within the Salton Sea is a USGS (United States Geological Society) 7.5 minute DEM (Digital Elevation Model) which was imported into ER Mapper.

This image was created using ER Mapper. The Geo-SPOT images were provided by the MIL (Map and Imagery Lab) at UC Santa Barbara. The original image of the Salton Sea is a photograph taken from the space shuttle. It was retrieved from the EarthRise database, and imported into ER Mapper. The shuttle image was georeferenced using the Geo-SPOT mosaic of the Salton Sea region (which was also imported into ER Mapper.) The USGS (United States Geological Survey) 7.5 minute DEM was obtained from the USGS web page and imported into ER Mapper. The shuttle image was mosaiced with the DEM and the SPOT mosaic. This algorithm was viewed on the Indigo 2 SGI, "Mufasa" at the San Diego Supercomputer Center. The screen image was captured and you are viewing a low resolution version of that.
