This is a 3-D image of San Diego. Notice how the extent of the image is greater than the extent of the DTM (Digital Terrain Model.) I have exaggerated the vertical scale so this will be more apparent. On the SGI, with it's texturing capabilities, this image is beautiful. If you wanted to, you could create a DEM (Digital Elevation Model) for the clouds to also make them 3-D.

This image was created using ER Mapper. The original image of San Diego is a photograph taken from the space shuttle. It was retrieved from the EarthRise database, and imported into ER Mapper. It was georeferenced using the Geo-SPOT image of the San Diego region (which was also imported into ER Mapper) provided by the MIL (Map and Imagery Lab) at UC Santa Barbara. The georeferenced shuttle image was then laid over the DTM of San Diego located in the ER Mapper software, creating a 3-D algorithm. This algorithm was viewed on the Indigo 2 SGI, "Mufasa" at the San Diego Supercomputer Center. The screen image was captured and you are viewing a low resolution version of that.
