The planet Earth. We wanted the students to become accustomed to viewing the Earth
from space. Throughout the two week visit to Kimball School,
we used many images of Earth taken from the space shuttle and other satellites.
Dr. Frost tells the kids about the structure of the interior of the Earth. To the
left, a pop-up book shows the layers found inside of the Earth. To the right, a
poster gives a close up view of a slice of the Earth. The kids learned about the
solid inner core, the liquid outer core, the mantle which flows (convects) like boiling
chocolate pudding, and the crust which is thin like the skin of a kiwi fruit.
