Below, the student use ESRI's Live Earthquake Maps site, which gives them access to near-real-time seismic data for the entire Earth.

Above left, is the seismic map of the entire Earth with the recent earthquakes depicted by colored circles. The students recognized that nearly all of the earthquakes are occurring on plate boundaries. To the right, they zoom in on the United States.

Above left, the students check out what is happening, seismically, in California that week. They were especially interested in the Mammath Lakes region, and their local area of Southern California.
