Chris Halter's High School Mathematics Classroom
Students explored several locations around the world through space shuttle
photographs. The images are accompanied by descriptions of various
landmarks visible in the photograph. Students sketch the photos and label
their pictures with all of the landmarks. Above is Krakitoa Volcano.
Above is an image of the Dead Sea and its evaporation ponds which produce evaporative minerals (salts).
At left is Mount Everest (directly under the arrow) in the Himalayan Mountain Chain.
At right is the Grand Canyon
during the winter. The snow on the Kaibab plateau makes it easier for our
eyes and brains to accept it as a canyon. In some images of the Grand Canyon where
there is no snow,
many people perceive the canyon as a chain of mountains.
