
This photo shows the Dead Sea Rift Valley. In the lower center of the picture is the Dead Sea. To the left of the Dead Sea is Israel and to the right is the country of Jordan. The mountainous region in the upper left corner is the Judean Hills. Near the upper center of the picture is the city of Jeruselum, visible as scars in the desert. The Dead Sea rests on a large fault line, marking the collision of two plates. The fault can be seen extending from the northern end of the sea as it goes through the desert salt flats on its way to the Sea of Galilee (not visible in the photo).
