The mountainous region in the upper left corner is the Judean Hills. Near the upper center of the picture is the city of Jeruselum, visible as scars in the desert. The Dead Sea rests on a large fault line, marking the collision of two plates. The fault can be seen extending from the northern end of the sea as it goes through the desert salt flats on its way to the Sea of Galilee (not visible in the photo).
